How to Set up Recurring Billing with Braintree

To enable recurring gifts, Braintree requires a plan or plans be set up in their system. Due to 3rd party companies making changes that we may not always be aware of right away, it is best to use their help tools directly. This is the link to the instructions.

Once a plan is set up, Eleo users can use that plan to create subscriptions for their contacts. Subscriptions in Braintree are Recurring Gift Accounts in Eleo and will automatically charge each contact’s billing method at midnight on their payment day. Eleo pulls these transactions and allows the user to create gifts from them.

NOTE: When you create a plan in Braintree, you must include a price as it is a required field, however, when the donor signs up for recurring billing on a Web Form, the amount they select on the form will overwrite this setup amount, so this setup amount can be anything you want.

Also, the Plan Name will be displayed as an option for donors to choose from on a Web Form, so we suggest making it something that describes the plan, such as ‘Monthly’ or ‘Annually’.
