An Overview of Custom Fields
If you have data you would like to add into Eleo and there is not a good standard field to put that data, you are able to create a custom field.
1. Go to ‘Settings’ on the top right-hand side.
2. Click ‘Custom Fields’ under Account Settings.
3. Click on ‘Add Custom Field’.
4. You will see a page like below (explanations of each field on the next page) Anything with a red asterisk (*) is required:
Page: Select the page you would like to add a custom field to. Choices are: Contacts, Events, Gifts, Grants, Memberships, Pledges, or Tributes
Section: Only an option under the Contact and Grant Pages – choose which section of the page you would like the field under
Field Name: Name of the new field you are making
Description: This is optional and internal – if you need to provide details about what the field will be used for
Field Type: Choose if you would like the field to be:
Textbox – Example:
Number: looks like the textbox field but you can define these items:
Email: looks like the textbox but will validate if it looks like an email address (Needs to contain an @ symbol)Checkbox: Example (Check the box to mark yes):
Dropdown List: Example:
You define the Values (one per line – type option and hit Enter and add next and so on). You can also select if you would like a blank option.
Date: Will be a smaller field with the calendar icon to select. Example:
Field Size: Size of the textbox – how many characters are allowed. 88 is the max amount of characters for a text field currently.
Display Order: The order of the custom field for the section/page you selected. If this is the first custom field you made, you can put 1, if it’s the 2nd one, put 2, etc.
Active: Yes or No – if you want this custom field to be active or not.
Custom fields can be reported on only using the Report Writers. They will not appear on any standard reports.
To access/create a custom report, go to Reports > Report Writers and choose the appropriate option. See our guide called “How to Create a Custom Report” if you need assistance with this.
