How to Track Households

While we do not have a set Householding function in Eleo, there are different ways that you can track households. Our general rule of thumb is to follow the money. If they donate together, you will likely want to have one record, or if they give separately you may want to track it separate. You may set up households by:

• Adding a relationship or

• Adding a Spouse to a contact record and filling out the informal and formal salutation fields (that can later be used for creating a Mailing or labels) or

• Adding a separate contact record

USER TIP: It is important to stay consistent throughout Eleo with whichever approach you decide is best for your organization.

NOTE: You may set up different ‘Relationship Types’ prior to adding a new relationship. Do this under Settings > Lookup Tables > Relationship types.

Adding a Relationship Option

1) Navigate to the contact you would like to add the Relationship to by going to Contacts > Search Contacts.

Search for a first name, last name or organization name. Or click on the small + in a box for more filtering options.

2) Click on the name of the contact to open their record. Then click on the ‘Relationships’ tab.

3) Click on the ‘Add Relationship’ button.

4) You will then be brought to the screen below where you can add the relationship by entering information or linking to the existing Eleo contact. Please note that if you enter the information without linking to a contact, they will not be a separate contact in Eleo and will only appear within this tab as informational data. All fields with a red asterisk (*) are required. Press ‘Save’ on the top when you are done.

Adding a Spouse & Informal and Formal Salutations Option

1) Search for the contact you want to work on and open their record. Then click on ‘Edit’ in the top.

2) Add the name of the Spouse in the ‘Spouse’ field.

3) Then scroll down to the ‘Communication Preferences’ section. Enter both names as you would want them to read for a formal and informal salutation for a mailing or label. (Example: Mr. & Mrs. John & Jane Smith as formal and John & Jane as informal). When you are done, press ‘Save’ on the top right.

Create a Separate Record Option

1) Go to Contacts > Add Contacts.

2) Add any data you would like for this contact. All fields with a red asterisk (*) are required.

3) When you are done, select ‘Save’. We recommend marking one of the records as ‘Do Not Mail’ if you do not want them to receive 2 mailings to the same address. You can also set up the formal & informal salutations to include a spouse/partner name if you would like.
